What do you associate with, when you hear about travelling?
Fun? Refreshing? Relaxing? Adventures?
Well, a group of explorers from Singapore associate it with “change”. They believe that each travel not only gives joy but also a new learning experience.
Meet Actxplorer, a travel-based social enterprise that aims to fight poverty by creating an inclusive and sustainable environment for local communities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and social enterprises to benefit from tourism, volunteerism and impact investment.
The term comes from “Acts” of doing good and the joy of “Exploring”.
Actxplorer connects local communities to travellers across the globe who wants to participate in meaningful experiences and adventures. Their mission is to create opportunities for travellers to interact with the locals in an authentic experience and to collaborate in social-related projects that benefit the locals.
They want to help the locals to access the tourism market and empower them to improve their livelihood. Tourism will open the opportunity for locals to host and share their unique experiences and collaborate to improve their community or more funding to grow their social enterprise. Actxplorer’s field team also provide support and training so that the interaction will be reciprocal, benefiting both the travellers and the locals.
They also provide an online marketplace to share stories of local communities and travel experiences with the world, as you can follow here.

Actxplorer’s team of travellers have spread their impactful act of kindness to many local communities across Southeast Asia. At the moment, their destinations include Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, Singapore and Laos.
They also have various thematic journeys which include Adventure, Art & Culture, Impact Travel, History & Geography and Nature.
Travelling should be a chance for us to refresh and learn. Yet, doing small impactful actions along the way won’t hurt. In fact, as a traveller, you will gain so much from the interaction alone; not just a sense of humanity, but maybe you will learn something about yourself along the way.
